David Raminfard has spent more than eight years as president and chief executive officer of New Point Fabric and KasLen Textiles, both in Vernon, California. When he is not managing his executive responsibilities or sourcing new fabrics from international and domestic trade shows, David Raminfard stays active by hiking at Temescal Canyon Park.

Temescal Canyon Park provides hikers with an array of options, including the popular Temescal Canyon Loop. The 3.1-mile loop is ideal for novice hikers or groups looking for a leisurely, scenic trail. Beginning at 15601 Sunset Boulevard, Pacific Palisades, in Temescal Gateway Park, the loop begins on the twisting Temescal Ridge Trail as it ascends the canyon. As the trail progresses, individuals can enjoy scenic vistas overlooking the surrounding canyon and, later, the nearby coastline.

Near the 1.5 mile mark, hikers can join with the Temescal Canyon Trail and start their return trip as they descend back into the canyon. The Temescal Canyon trail often resembles a tunnel made of trees and foliage and features a bridge passing a picturesque waterfall. The final mile consists of a gentle slope below the tree line back to the trailhead. The trail is typically completed in about one hour.

As the president of KasLen Textiles, David Raminfard meets the needs of diverse manufacturers, upholsterers, and retailers, focusing on the international sourcing and distribution of fabrics. David Raminfard is a longtime member of the Nessah Cultural and Educational Center and contributes time and money to the nonprofit, which is affiliated with a Southern California Persian Jewish congregation.

In 2015, the synagogue partnered with the iCare Foundation for Holocaust Remembrance Day, or Yom HaShoah, marking the 70th anniversary of the liberation of thousands of people from concentration camps across Europe.

Attended by members of the Synagogue and the local community, the event focused on Jewish identity among the younger generation. The hugely successful event had a vital message amid a backdrop of a dwindling number of Holocaust survivors. Their passing leaves future generations in danger of forgetting the tragedies the Jewish people have endured. With fewer survivors and more "deniers” in existence, the gathered Holocaust survivors provided an important eyewitness account of one of the most traumatic events in human history.

One attendee described the event as being valuable for revealing just how much she took for granted in her daily life. A survivor in attendance had a core message to share with the audience, that people should not look at her with sorrow or pity, but rather “realize how beautiful life is” and that tragedy shouldn't prevent you from enjoying life.

David Raminfard is a Vernon, California, entrepreneur who has established numerous textile distribution companies over the course of his career. Outside of leading Kaslen Textiles and New Point Fabric as CEO, David Raminfard is an avid traveler. He has had the opportunity to explore locations throughout Europe and Asia, including Hong Kong.

One of Hong Kong Island’s iconic sites, Victoria Peak, has an altitude of 1,811 feet and offers the best all-around view of Victoria Harbor, Kowloon, and the island itself. Accessible via a 120-year-old funicular tram, the viewpoint is best accessed just before sunset, when the scene shifts to one of sheer brilliance as the lights of thousands of high-rises take form against the skyline.

The current tourist focus of Victoria Peak belies a history of exclusivity: the area was reserved for European expatriates from the time Hong Kong became a British colony in 1841 until 1947. To this day, the peak contains some of the most luxurious neighborhoods in Hong Kong and is a sought-after residential location for those seeking respite from the urban grid.

David Raminfard, the CEO and president of both KasLen Textiles and New Point Fabrics, leverages more than three decades of experience in the textile industry to provide customers with a variety of drapery and upholstery fabric. In his free time, David Raminfard enjoys traveling to other countries, including Canada.

When many people think of Canada, they think about major cities like Montreal and Toronto. However, the country is home to lesser-known cities worth visiting. Here are a few examples:

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Although Saskatoon is the largest city in Saskatchewan, it is often overlooked by tourists. Visiting this city grants individuals a variety of rewards, including views of beautiful bridges, fantastic riverside spots, unique neighborhoods, and a healthy dose of history. Beyond that, Saskatoon is great for nature-loving tourists, thanks to its range of hiking trails and skiing destinations.

Nanaimo, British Columbia
This quirky city is perfect for visitors looking to enjoy a unique nightlife. Not only does the city house plenty of bars, there is a specific Nanaimo Bar Trail for visitors who want to try a pub crawl. Nanaimo also offers plenty of additional attractions, including a bronze statue of the city’s former pirate mayor, plenty of hiking destinations, and a ferry to nearby islands.

Fredericton, New Brunswick
Home to the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, Fredericton is a great year-round destination. It features great waterfront views, has a lively pub scene, and the Fredericton Railway Pedestrian Bridge. Tourists can also get a free three-day parking pass by stopping by Fredericton’s city hall before exploring the city.

David Raminfard is the president and CEO of KasLen Textiles in Vernon, California, a distributor of fine textiles, including draperies and upholstery. In his leisure time, David Raminfard enjoys outdoor activities, such as hiking.

Offering a number of benefits, hiking regularly can positively impact both health and mood. Hiking is a cardiovascular workout that increases the heart rate and decreases the risk of heart disease.

Building strength in both core and leg muscles, hiking can also help lower blood pressure and control blood sugar levels. In addition, researchers have linked the mood-boosting power of hiking to lower levels of stress and decreased anxiety, which makes hiking a holistic workout.

A study at Stanford University found that individuals who spent 90 minutes outside in nature - often hiking - had lower levels of the chemicals in the brain that are linked to depression. Consequently, going for a walk on a hiking trail can have a measurably positive impact on mental health.

NBA Ratings Continue to Rise

Drawing upon more than 35 years of experience in the textile business, David Raminfard opened the Los Angeles, California-based Luxury Fabrics retail outlet and serves as president of both New Point Fabrics and Kaslen Textiles. In his free time, David Raminfard enjoys following the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The 2014 NBA Finals ratings were the lowest in five years, but the league has been experiencing healthy ratings across the board over the past four seasons thanks in large part to the dominance of LeBron James and the Golden State Warriors. An average of 15 million people watched the 2014 NBA Finals, but 20 million watched the following year, when the Cavaliers and Warriors met in the first of four consecutive Finals. That was only the third time the Finals averaged more than 18 million viewers since 2003.

The 2016 and 2017 NBA Finals were viewed by an average of 20.2 and 20.5 million people, respectively, and while those numbers dropped slightly in 2018, the league is still regularly breaking viewership records. During the 2017-18 regular season, viewership was up 8 percent from the prior season and 17 percent on ABC alone. James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers this past offseason, which makes it unlikely that the Warriors and Cavaliers will play in the NBA Finals for a fifth consecutive year, but that hasn't slowed the league's momentum. On October 11, James' Lakers played the Warriors in a preseason game on ESPN, and it was the network's most-watched preseason game of all-time with almost two million viewers.

NBA Continues to Use Traditional Finals Format

As CEO and president of both KasLen Textiles, LLC, and NewPoint Fabrics Inc., David Raminfard is tasked with sourcing fabrics from a number of international suppliers. Beyond his professional activities, David Raminfard enjoys following the National Basketball Association (NBA), particularly during the NBA Finals.

The 2014 NBA Finals marked an important change to the league’s championship series while at the same time bringing about closure to David Stern’s three-decade tenure as league commissioner. Beginning with the 1985 NBA Finals, the first under Stern’s aegis, teams competed in a 2-3-2 format, meaning the first two games and, if necessary, final two games of the best-of-seven series would be contested on the home team’s floor, with the middle three games taking place on the lower seeded team’s court. The format differed from previous NBA Finals and all other best-of-seven series in the post season, held under a 2-2-1-1-1 format.

Stern initiated the change in 1985 as part of his and the league’s plan to gain better television coverage for the NBA, especially during the playoffs. With the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers facing off against the Los Angeles Lakers in six NBA Finals throughout the 1980s, national camera crews were forced to continuously trek back and forth across the country, sometimes three times in less than one week.

While the updated format made travel easier, critics felt it was unfair to give the lower seeded team three consecutive home games, forcing the higher seed to remain on the road for more than a week at a time. In 2013, with Stern’s time as commissioner coming to a closer, league ownership voted unanimously to revert back to the traditional format. Since that time, all NBA Finals series have gone to at least five games, with notable contests including home close-out games by the San Antonio Spurs in 2014 and the Golden State Warriors in 2017, and the Cleveland Cavaliers securing an important road win over the Warriors on their way to the first-ever comeback from a 3-1 deficit in NBA Finals history.

Thing to Consider When Choosing a Curtain Rod and Hardware

5/24/2017

David Raminfard presides over KasLen Textiles, a leading supplier of high-quality fabrics. David Raminfard's holdings in the textile industry also include New Point Fabric and Luxury Fabrics in California. Luxury Fabrics offers a wide array of fabric choices as well as all the hardware and fixtures to go with them.

When choosing fixtures for drapery, the first decision you will need to make about hardware is whether or not you would like it to be visible. Some curtain rods are designed to be hidden, while others are meant to be prominent decorations.

If you opt for a decorative curtain rod, consider the diameter and length. Larger rods will be bolder accents, while thinner rods may look more elegant with certain decor. Experts suggest avoiding rods that are much less than one inch in diameter, as they can appear cheap or flimsy.

Short curtain rods can open up opportunities for asymmetrical drapery arrangements or accent fabrics, while long curtain rods can make a window seem wider than it actually is. Consider your available space and overall desired aesthetic when deciding on a length.

When choosing a color or finish, it is important to consider the other tones present in a room. Many people match their curtain rods to the picture frames, mirrors, furniture legs, and similar items in a room, rather than focusing on matching the drapery fabric itself. Once a finish is picked, you can select matching end caps, hooks, finials, tiebacks, and other accessories as desired.

Raw Denim as a “Blank Slate” Material for Jeans

5/13/2017

Picture
Serving as the president of KasLen Textiles LLC in Vernon, California, respected entrepreneur David Raminfard manages a 60,000-square-foot warehouse of fabrics, encompassing everything from felt to denim. Moreover, David Raminfard offers this broad spectrum of fabrics in a variety of popular patterns and styles.

Best known as a material for jeans and jackets, denim is a versatile warp-faced cotton material that features rugged diagonal ribbing. In its raw or “dry” form, it has not been pre-washed, on account of which the dye runoff and pre-shrinking associated with pre-washing has not occurred.

Purchasers of raw denim clothes often wear them for anywhere from six months to a year without washing to give them an opportunity to shed their dye. With this “blank slate,” the patterns that emerge from the process of living in the jeans reflect the individual wearer’s physique and lifestyle. Once such a pair of jeans is finally washed, patterns that reflect the wearer’s history emerge.
